South Park, Seattle: The Duwamish, the Bridge, and Where to Stay

South Park sits on the west bank of the Duwamish River, platted as its own town in 1889 and annexed into Seattle in 1907. It's grown into one of Seattle's most distinctive neighborhoods -- a strong Latino community, small marine and industrial businesses along the waterway, and a real small-town feel inside city limits.
The Duwamish Waterfront A working river neighborhood: South Park Marina has offered moorage since 1970, and Duwamish Waterway Park -- reopened in 2022 after a full renovation -- gives the neighborhood real public access to the water, with a perimeter path, picnic tables, and a hand-carried boat launch.
South Park Bridge The bascule bridge connecting South Park to Georgetown across the Duwamish. The current span opened in 2014 after the original 1931 bridge was closed for safety in 2010, incorporating salvaged brick and design details from the original.
