Lynnwood, WA: Light Rail, Alderwood Mall, and Where to Stay

Lynnwood has become a real Snohomish County transit hub in the last couple of years, on top of being home to the biggest mall north of Seattle.
Light Rail The Lynnwood City Center Station opened August 30, 2024 as the northern terminus of the 8.5-mile Lynnwood Link Extension, which added four new stations — Shoreline South/148th, Shoreline North/185th, Mountlake Terrace, and Lynnwood City Center. It's part of Sound Transit's 1 Line, so it's one seat to downtown Seattle and SeaTac Airport, with a future transfer to the 2 Line for Bellevue and Redmond. The station was built with travelers in mind — wide fare gates for luggage, strollers, and bikes, plus a large parking garage.
Alderwood Mall The largest mall in Snohomish County — 1.5 million square feet and over 170 stores, anchored by JCPenney, Macy's, and Nordstrom. Two open-air additions, The Village and The Terraces, added dining patios and a 16-screen AMC theatre on top of the traditional enclosed mall. It's reachable directly from light rail via the Swift Orange Line BRT.
Outside Scriber Lake Park's new 1,100-foot elevated boardwalk opened in June 2025, giving year-round accessible access to the park's wetlands and its half-mile loop around the lake. The Interurban Trail — a paved regional trail through Snohomish County — runs through Lynnwood too, connecting to Scriber Lake via Scriber Creek Trail.

Alderwood Mall

Scriber Lake Park
A 24-acre park built around the city's only public lake. The new 1,100-foot elevated boardwalk (8 feet wide) opened in June 2025, replacing an old wood-chip trail and giving year-round, ADA-accessible access to the park's wetlands on the half-mile loop around the lake.

Heritage Park
A small history park anchored by the 1919 Wickers Building — Alderwood Manor's first general store, now a museum with original artifacts — and the restored Interurban Trolley Car 55, a 1907 electric rail car that ran between Seattle and Everett until 1939. A demonstration farm rounds it out, including the 1919 Humble House.
Heritage Park — City of Lynnwood →Interurban Trail
A paved regional trail following the old Interurban Trolley's route between Seattle and Everett (in service 1910–1939). The Snohomish County section runs 16 miles, passing through Lynnwood and connecting south toward the King County line.
Lynndale Park

A 40-acre community park with about 22 acres of preserved native forest and walking trails. Also has a skate park, tennis courts, ball fields, and a half-acre fully-enclosed off-leash dog area next to the skate park.
