Downtown Bellevue: Parks, the Botanical Garden, and Where to Stay

Downtown Bellevue packs a surprising amount of green space around its office towers and Bellevue Square — most of it within easy walking distance of anywhere downtown.
Downtown Park A 21-acre park right in the middle of downtown, with a half-mile canal promenade, a lake, and walking paths through the lawns. It regularly hosts community events and outdoor concerts — worth checking the events calendar before a visit in case something's on.
Bellevue Botanical Garden 53 acres, free, open every day. The display gardens (dahlias, fuchsias, a water-wise garden) are the draw most of the year, but if you're visiting between late November and early January, the garden runs an annual holiday light display with over 500,000 lights shaped into giant insects, flowers, and garden creatures across the grounds.
Getting there Sound Transit's 2 Line light rail opened across Lake Washington in March 2026, connecting downtown Seattle directly to the Bellevue Downtown Station (with onward service to Redmond) — a real alternative to driving now, on top of the free parking that comes with the stay below.

Downtown Park

A 21-acre park right in the middle of downtown — the city's front yard, not an afterthought. A half-mile promenade with a stepped canal, a 10-acre lake, and wide lawns perfect for picnics. Look for the Piloti sculpture at the NE entrance — perforated columns that frame the park like a doorway. Connected to Meydenbauer Bay via a new trail, with Inspiration Playground (inclusive, all-ages), restrooms, and plenty of benches in sun and shade.

Bellevue Botanical Garden
12001 Main St, Bellevue, WA
53 acres, free, open every day. Start with the classics — Yao Japanese Garden, the Perennial Border, Fuchsia Garden, Dahlia Display, Waterwise Garden — then cross the Ravine Experience, a 150ft suspension bridge over the forested ravine. Offices are staffed 9–4 Monday–Friday, but the grounds stay open dawn to dusk. The Trillium Store and Copper Kettle Coffee Bar are both on site.

Garden d'Lights
Bellevue Botanical Garden, 12001 Main St
Over 500,000 lights shaped into giant insects, flowers, and garden creatures across the grounds. Runs 4:30–9pm, closed Dec 25. $10 per person, kids 10 and under free — tickets at bellevuebotanical.org/garden-dlights/. Warm up at the Trillium Store and Copper Kettle Coffee Bar for hot cider and coffee.
